Believe it or not this was my first truly Catholic Wedding. I say truly because it wasn't just between a Catholic person or two, it took place in a Catholic church and thus had the extra Catholic touches, as well as the extra length.
But honestly, I don't mind a longer ceremony. Short ceremonies seem to be the trend these days and, while I do understand their purpose, I prefer them a little bit longer, from my perspective. More time to move around the space, photograph from every angle, more opportunities for various shots, etc.
On the other hand, less traditional weddings tend to be outdoors or in less traditional venues, which almost always have better than basic church lighting. Churches tend to be dim and have a mix of lighting sources, colored windows as well as a mix of different light bulbs. This almost always makes editing a wedding in a church more challenging.
I provided this couple with both color and black and white images of the entire ceremony, due to the lighting. I prefer black and white in these situations but I know not everyone agrees, so I like to provide both. Especially in the case of a wedding when thought was put into the colors of decor and objects. Though I do think that black and white has an ability to portray emotions in a way that color just cannot touch.
The bride's brother and his son escorted their mother down the aisle.
The priest entered before the wedding party.
The bride's sister was the "best woman" :)
And a little pack of flower girls followed.
The sanctuary was very simple, which I enjoyed.
Everyone was welcomed and some readings started off the ceremony.
Followed by some songs, which took place frequently throughout the service.
There were many bride and groom whispering moments throughout. :)
Some lovely stained glass art.
Rings were exchanged. While that typically signals just about the end of a wedding ceremony there was still much to come this Saturday afternoon.
Communion was shared.
And shortly after the couple was presented followed by an unplanned receiving line in the lobby.
Typically a receiving line, or something close to it, ends up happening even if it wasn't planned for.
I rushed outside to get in place for a bubble filled send off.
The church was really quite beautiful on the outside.
The reception was held a few minutes from my home, at the Theo Wirth Chalet. We quickly headed over and got started on portraits.
I explored the area briefly with the bride and groom in search of a shady spot large enough for the family portraits to come. The chalet sits at the entrance to Theo Wirth Golf Course so there isn't too much space to explore immediately next to the chalet. Theo Wirth Park was great scenery to offer but with our tight schedule and large family groups, we had to keep close to the chalet.
We stumbled upon this perfect location immediately behind the chalet where service vehicles park and and load things in.
We were all pleased with the spot we found but not too please that the bugs found us.
There was a long list of family portraits to accomplish for this wedding, which is usually one of my least favorite times, but this family knew what they were doing. We had a short amount of time to accomplish a lot and we stayed on schedule perfectly, sped through our list, and everyone managed to smile and not blink - it was amazing! :)
We even had time to break down for individual family portraits.
And snuck in some more bride and groom photos while we were waiting for a few more family members to find our little spot.
This baby is amazing - do you see that smile? And she's looking at the camera? Amazing.
To be honest, there were a few groups in which I had to do some head swapping in the editing process. When you try to throw four little ones together it's just tough to get the perfect shot. After these, the honorary ring bearer was included so we were up to five little ones! I took over 50 photos of the 4-5 of them and still had to do some swapping. But it worked out well. :)
Fancy butter. :)
A very simple yet beautiful cake.
The reception site has a lot to offer - a main dinning room, a bar room, an indoor porch area, and a large outdoor terrace.
Congratulations Danielle and Bryce! :)
